FOOTHILL KNIGHTS FAQS 2024
DO I HAVE TO REGISTER FOR FHS FOOTBALL?
Yes! Registration for the 2024 Fall season will open in the Summer. Please fill out the Fall 2024 Season Interest Form on the homepage. The interest form does not register your student-athlete, but will add you to the mailing list for additional information and important announcements.
ARE THERE TRYOUTS?
No. This is a no-cut sport. All interested student-athletes are encouraged to come out and give it a try.
WHAT IS THE SUMMER PRACTICE SCHEDULE?
Check the Calendar on www.foothillfootball.org for practice schedules based on the team level. This summer, Varsity and JV will practice in the morning and Freshman will practice in the afternoon.
WHEN CAN WE GO ON VACATION?
-
Vacations are preferred between June 1st and June 16th. All programs are required to have a “dead period” for two weeks at some time between the end of the prior school year and the beginning of the start of the season. FHS takes this time immediately following the conclusion of the school year which is why vacations are preferred during this time.
-
Vacations after June 17th should be scheduled after Coach’s approval.
-
No Vacations after July 30th. CIF has rules and regulations around the number of hours players must have had in full gear (helmets and pads) prior to qualifying to participate in games. If your student-athlete misses practices during this time, playing time during games could be impacted.
DO I HAVE TO REGISTER SEPARATELY FOR SUMMER CAMP?
-
To participate in FHS Summer Football Camp you must be registered as a Summer Sports participant through TUSD. You can find more information here: https://foothill.tustin.k12.ca.us/students/athletics-at-fhs/summer-programs
-
Summer Sports fees are determined by TUSD and are paid directly to TUSD via www.MySchoolBucks.com
-
All questions regarding registration for Summer Camp should be directed to the Tustin Unified School District.
WHAT IS ATHLETIC CLEARANCE?
-
TUSD requires that all returning and incoming athletes must have completed the Athletic Clearance process before they can participate in any summer and/or school-year sports activities.
-
The Athletic Clearance is valid for one year and must be repeated on an annual basis. Failure to renew the Athletic Clearance prior to summer will result in the student not being able to participate in any summer and/or school-year activities at Foothill.
-
You can find more information here https://foothill.tustin.k12.ca.us/students/athletics-at-fhs/athletic-clearance and process your player’s Athletic Clearance online at: www.AthleticClearance.com Select: Foothill/Santa Ana (CIF SS)
WHEN DOES THE FALL SEASON START?
-
The Fall Season starts on July 30th.
-
Vacations are highly discouraged during this time due to safety regulations and minimum requirements for practice time in pads prior to the first game.
-
If your player misses any practice during this time, it is very likely that they won’t be able to play in the first game due to minimum requirements not being met.
WHAT ARE OTHER IMPORTANT SUMMER DATES I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
-
June 26th - Mandatory Parent Meeting
-
August 3rd - Media Guide Pictures
-
August 10th - Intersquad Scrimmages, Summer BBQ
-
August 17th - Lift A Thon
Please note that schedules can change. You will likely get updates from your Team Rep however we recommend checking the calendar on our website before making plans.

HOW DO PLAYERS GET TO AWAY GAMES?
All players will go on the team bus with the coaches to and from the games. Players are not allowed to ride with parents to or from games without prior approval and only for an approved reason.
WHAT IS THE PRACTICE SCHEDULE LIKE ONCE THE SEASON STARTS?
There is practice all week with a lighter practice “walk through” prior to game day and “film” post game day for players.
HOW MANY GAMES ARE THERE IN A SEASON?
There are usually 10 games per season per level/team.
IS THERE A FEE TO PLAY FOOTBALL?
We ask for a donation to the Football Boosters from each family. We are still in the planning stages for the Fall 2024 Season and will provide an update once we have finalized the budget.
Donations are tax-deductible and you will receive a receipt once your donation is made. Don’t forget to check with your employer as some companies match charitable donations up to 100%!
Our program is not funded by the school, so player donations are used to cover expenses such as equipment, additional coaches, speed/agility training and much more.
WHAT EQUIPMENT IS PROVIDED BY THE SCHOOL?
Foothill provides helmets, shoulder pads, game and practice uniforms. Game uniforms are left at school and washed after each game.
WHAT EQUIPMENT ARE PLAYERS RESPONSIBLE FOR?
Football Cleats, mouthguard and an athletic cup are required. Any additional personal accessories such as gloves, girdles, belts, etc. are optional.
IS THERE A MINIMUM G.P.A. REQUIRED TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT FOOTHILL HIGH SCHOOL?
Yes! Academics are extremely important and Foothill Football encourages, recognizes and honors our scholar athletes. A minimum G.P.A. of 2.0 must be maintained in order to be eligible to play on the team.
Several of our teams have coaches on staff that provide additional assistance to our student-athletes and will always continue to push that academics are top priority.
Still have additional questions? Do not hesitate to reach out to our boosters!!
